FORMATION
Endings
-ant Ending -ant is added to the stem of a verb.
This corresponds to English -ing
Stem
- Take the 1st person plural form or the NOUS form of the verb in present tense. e.g. parlons, finissons, prenons
- Take off the - ons ending to form the stem of the participe présent. e.g. parl-, finiss-, pren-
Examples

Exceptions
There are three exceptions.
PARTICIPE PRÉSENT ÊTRE étant AVOIR ayant SAVOIR sachant
USAGE
Participe Présent replaces the relative pronoun qui.
e.g.
Le patron du restaurant cherche une vendeuse qui parle l'anglais.
[The owner of the restaurant is looking for a waitress who speaks English.]
Le patron du restaurant cherche une vendeuse parlant l'anglais.
[The owner of the restaurant is looking for a waitress speaking English.]
Participe Présent can express a cause.
e.g.
Comme Pauline est malade, elle n'a pas pu venir.
[Since Pauline is ill, she could not come.]
Étant malade, Pauline n'a pas pu venir.
[Being ill, Pauline could not come.]
Participe Présent is used in the formation of Gérondif.
